2022 East Kentucky Floods Part 1: When the Storm Hit

In July 2022, record-breaking rainfall swept across Eastern Kentucky, flooding multiple counties and claiming 45 lives. Entire towns were underwater within hours, and thousands of families were displaced.

“When the Storm Hit” is the first installment of Worthy Ground, a storytelling series from Invest Appalachia about the 2022 floods. The series documents the impact, recovery, and resilience of communities across Central Appalachia- reminding us that this region is not only resilient, but worth investing in.
