Two Free Workshops Coming to Letcher County to Support Recovery and Those Who Keep Showing Up
In Letcher County, we know that recovery doesn't end when the floodwaters recede. Long after the immediate response, families and communities continue navigating the challenges of rebuilding their lives. And often, the same neighbors, volunteers, and community members who showed up in the earliest days are still doing the work of helping others move forward.
This November, Hummingly Foundation is bringing two free, hands-on workshops to Neon, Kentucky, designed specifically for Letcher County residents and the people who care about our communities.
Everyone is welcome to attend, especially those who continue to show up for their neighbors time and time again. Whether you're a community volunteer, nonprofit worker, faith leader, local business owner, or simply someone who lends a hand when it's needed, these workshops are for you.
The workshops are two separate opportunities, each offering different tools and resources. Participants are encouraged to register for both, but attending one is not required to attend the other.
Tools to Support Recovery
Monday, November 2, 2026 | 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
In every disaster, there are losses we can see and those we cannot. Behind the headlines are people working to regain their footing in a world that may no longer feel safe or familiar.
This workshop focuses on practical strategies and emotional insights to help individuals and communities navigate recovery with greater confidence.
Participants will explore tools drawn from disaster recovery efforts around the world and receive their own set of Hummingly's Cards for Calamity, along with practical ways to use them when supporting others.
A light lunch will be provided following the workshop.
Sustaining the Supporters: Taking Care of the Ones Who Keep Showing Up
Thursday, November 5, 2026 | 4 p.m. – 7 p.m.
You've been there for your neighbors. This time is for you.
Supporting others through disaster recovery can be deeply meaningful, but it can also take a toll. This workshop is designed for the people who keep showing up, offering space to reflect, connect, and find practical ways to care for themselves while continuing to care for their communities.
Participants will leave with simple tools that have helped communities recover from disasters around the world, including Hummingly's Doing Well deck.
You don't have to be worn out to come. You just have to care about the people in these mountains.
A light dinner will be provided.
Join Us in Neon
Both workshops will take place at Neon First Church of God, 13 CS-3015, Neon, KY 41840, and are completely free to attend.
While each workshop offers something different, both are rooted in a shared understanding: recovery is about more than rebuilding what was lost. It's also about caring for the people who make recovery possible.
You are welcome to attend either workshop or both. Separate registration is requested for each, and no previous experience or formal role in disaster recovery is necessary.
